Geidy Morfa-Hernández

Hello! I am a postdoctoral fellow at UNAM, at the Center for Gender Research and Studies (CIEG-UNAM), Mexico. In my current project, I am actively investigating the ever-evolving landscape of feminist digital activism in authoritarian Latin American contexts, women's political use of digital spaces, and these as alternative venues to public protest. I aim to understand the dynamic role of digital spaces in women's political activism. Related to this, I study conservative movements, cyberhate, cybermisogyny, and digital violence online in their complexity and as a dynamic counter to feminist cyberactivism.

Other lines of research I have developed relate to Indigenous and Native American movements, alternative horizons, and anti-extractivist struggles in Latin America. For instance, I have previously researched the role of digital media in empowering Indigenous women in Latin America, and how digital platforms have been used to amplify their voices and advocate for their rights. Another line of interest is communication policies, and regional integration schemes.

For 16 years, I have been dedicated to teaching and researching in Cuba, Mexico, and Bolivia, participating in various individual studies and collective projects. Although I have primarily conducted qualitative research, I am competent in all three research perspectives (quantitative, qualitative, and mixed).

Skills: Self-motivated and team-oriented, with a proven track record of meeting deadlines. Ability to solve problems in challenging circumstances. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. Knowledge and skills in fieldwork and mastery of qualitative and quantitative methodologies.

My resume and other research areas are here. Please get in touch with me if you find my work interesting and would like to discuss potential collaborations or research opportunities.
